The grandson of a famous archaeologist receives a letter detailing the location of the Serpent of Isis, an Ancient Egyptian piece discovered by his grandfather, and stolen from the museum in 1900.
The Serpent of Isis is a hidden object game with elements from the adventure genre. The main objective is to find and click on all the items listed at the left side of the screen, on locations filled with assorted objects, within a time limit. Some of the objects collected are stored in the inventory, to be used later to solve puzzles. Some of the list items are grayed out, to indicate the need of an extra step to access them. This can be just opening some container, or using a tool on specific portions of the scenery.
Some of the inventory items can be combined. For example, batteries can be dragged to the flashlight to make it work. The inventory also houses suspects cards that show a special object associated with each character. These objects are found lying around the locations, and give extra hints when collected.
Two hint buttons are available. The magnifying glass button highlights the exact position of one of the required objects. The wrench button shows places on the screen with pending puzzles.
Puzzles appear occasionally that range from the mundane, like jigsaw puzzles, to more original ones that require logic thinking. They can be skipped, with a penalty of 20 minutes added to the score.
