Strength & Honour is a strategy game similar to the Total War series and is set in the ancient world. After choosing a campaign the player needs to manage his cities. He needs to build up the cities infrastructure to satisfy the people's wishes for food and education and simultaneously built up an army. Politics involve choosing the right governors, neutralizing opposition on the own country and diplomatic relationships to other nations. The so-called "philosophies" influence how the people think and act, e.g. militarism is good for the army but bad for the spiritual part of life. This part of the game is turn-based.
As soon as a battle occurs the game switches to real-time combat. At first the player chooses the units and their formations. Then he basically tries to destroy the enemies by issuing attack orders. Of course there are also tactical maneuvers possible, e.g. by using ranged attacks or using forests. There are overall eight nations, e.g. Rome and Egypt. If the player doesn't like both parts he also can play just one - either by letting the CPU calculate the real-time combat or using the "historical fight" option which includes real-time combat only.
