Super Adventures of Matt in Hazard Land: Extreme Alpha Advance is a "remake" of the 1983 arcade hit Adventures of Matt in Hazard Land, which was Matt Hazard's breakthrough game. The game was released as part of a viral campaign before the release of Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard to establish the lore behind the main character (there was also a blog where a former employee of Marathon MegaSoft, the company which released Matt's games, posted as well as a Behind the Music-type retrospective of his career and more).
The game itself is a side-scrolling shooter with a distinct 16-bit style to it. As Matt makes his way across the stages he'll face off against aliens, UFOs, astronaut cowboys, gun turrets and other enemies. There are some boss encounters as well, all of which are presented in a style mocking/giving tribute to the Japanese games in the genre with a big warning sign and sirens wailing.
The player controls Matt using the A, S and D keys, as well as the mouse for aiming and shooting. There are three different weapons to pick up and use (a machine gun, a laser rifle and a rocket launcher), each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
