Mario, legs tired from jumping and fists scuffed with brick-breaking, has settled on a new way to clean out the Mushroom Kingdom: holding a platform over his head (as in the bonus round of 1983's Pinball), he releases a single shot from a fire flower and lets it bounce through all the nooks and corners, collecting coins and smashing bricks on his behalf. All he has to do is situate himself to bounce the fireball back up when it returns down to his level and he can take care of a whole screen almost without breaking a sweat!
In short, this is what you get when you make a mash-up of Super Mario Bros. and Arkanoid, complete with many long-lived and fondly-loved characters and power-ups from the 8-bit days, here taken out for another spin in a wholly new context: a ball and paddle game. Nothing you'd ever expect, but considering the vast gulfs between the original genres of its inspirations -- a surprisingly good fit.
