In the 7th century, the nation of Sui united China, becoming the Sui dynasty and defeating the country of Chen. The people of Chen were oppressed by the rule of the emperor, and organized a rebellion. Sui sent an army, and the two countries once again faced each other in battle. A twelve-years old boy was fighting on the side of Sui empire. Wielding the legendary Xuanyuan sword, he helped the Sui army to defeat Chen with ease.
Six years later, Chen Jingchou, a young student of martial arts, discovers a mysterious cave together with his teacher. The teacher tells him that he is the only one who can help the people of Chen. The star Chiguan has appeared, and the prophecy is about to be fulfilled. But in order to defeat Sui, Chen Jingchou will have to find the ten legendary artifacts of Shenzhou, the land of gods. There are ten such artifacts: a clock, a sword, an axe, a tea pot, a tower, a qin (Chinese musical instrument), a pan, a seal, a mirror, and a stone. The sword is the legendary Xuanyuan sword, which has now fallen into the enemy hands. Will the young man be able to fulfill the prophecy and lead his country to a victory?
Tian zhi Hen ("Scar in the Heaven") is the second waizhuan (side story) in the Xuanyuan Jian role-playing game series. Its story takes place in a different time period and is not directly connected to the one of Xuanyuan Jian 3. However, the game looks very similarly to the third one, also using pre-rendered backgrounds and 2D sprites for characters, and utilizes a similar battle system with special attacks, third-person view for exploration and battles, and monster-summoning system.
There is also a new monster-breeding system in the game: the protagonist has his own monster (Fu Gui) who always fights on his side, and the player can feed this monster to increase its parameters, upgrade it by merging with other monsters, and teach it various abilities.
