The iSpectrum serious game was developed in the context of the iSpectrum project. It aims to improve the work-based social interaction skills of people with autism, Asperger syndrome and other related special needs through a virtual work environment to increase their chances of gaining employment.
The iSpectrum projects funded through the Leonardo programme and is part of the Leonardo Transfer of Innovation stream (TOI), which supports the development of skills and training.
When researching the number of people across Europe recorded as on the Autism spectrum, the conclusion is that the barriers to gaining employment are high. While there are interventions in some European states to assist with interview techniques there is no general or easy way to prepare people with ASD for job interview situations neither for work in general. A serious game who trains adults with ASD for social qualification in different job areas didn’t exist before.
The iSpectrum serious game aims to improve the work based social skills and relevant work skills of people with high functioning ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorders) and Asperger’s disorder. This is done improving their social skills and skills needed in a work environment.
