Crater Lake, located in southern Oregon, is one of the most beautiful lakes in the United States, and maybe even the globe. It was produced about 7,700 years ago when an old volcano collapsed. The blue water, which goes down to a depth of 1,943 feet, is very serene and pristine despite having a dramatic natural occurrence as its source.
The alpine Tenaya Lake in Yosemite is a fantastic site for swimming, kayaking, and rafting, but the park's reputation for rock climbing and trekking is well-deserved. This picturesque glacial lake can be found between Yosemite Valley and Tuolumne Meadows, and it is surrounded on all sides by massive granite boulders.
